How To Change Windows Password In Safe Mode

Windows operating systems have many built in security features. One of these features is the option to set passwords for your user accounts. It does not matter whether you have an administrative account or a limited account, you can set a password for it.
However, what will you do if you forget your Windows password? Even though there is an option to provide a hint for your password, many people do not care to give a hint during the password setup. In such a situation, logging into your computer using safe mode can help you. According to Windows tech support, safe mode does not require a password and thus you may use this technique to reset your Windows password. Follow the steps below to login to safe mode and reset your Windows password.

Steps involved
  • Reboot your computer if it is turned on. You may press the power button for about 10 seconds to shut down the computer and then restart it. 
  • While the computer turns on, keep pressing the key F8 or F12. The key may vary depending on your system manufacturer. Once you press the key, you will be shown different options like Safe Mode, Safe Mode with command prompt, safe mode with networking etc. 
  • Select the first option in the list, which is Safe Mode.
  • You r computer will login to the Safe Mode. Keep in mind that not all the major drivers are loaded in Safe Mode. You will not even find your desktop background as it is disabled in this mode. 
  • Select the Start menu and go to Control Panel.
  • In the Control Panel window, select the option User Accounts.
  • The above step will list the different user accounts in your computer. From the list, choose the user account for which you forgot the password.
  • Select the option Change the password.
  • Type a new password in the corresponding field. You will find another field to re-enter the password. Enter again and choose the option Change Password. This will save the new password in your computer. 
  • Restart your computer.
  • When you try to login to the user account, you will receive the password box. 
  • Enter the new password to login to your account.
